Let's keep a list here of some of the key texts held on other site that will be of interest to those who want to dig a little deeper.

  • The Cathedral and the Bazaar - Eric S Raymond's essay on the difference between open source and traditional software development methods. This is where the phrase 'given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow' came from.
  • The Jargon File - a useful guide to much of the hacker slang used in open source culture.
  • Philosophy of the GNU Project - lots of background to the GNU project, one of the first free (don't call it open source!) software projects
  • The Free Online Dictionary of Computing - really useful glossary of computing terms, with lots of history and background
