Your Tea Party Bridal Shower
If you’re planning a bridal showerfor a friend of yours and you’d like to make it a tad bit different from every other shower you’ve ever attended, have some tea. Seriously. Turn your bridal shower into an afternoon tea party. This theme conveys a feeling of elegance to the event. However, it doesn’t have to be stuffy. Make it as fun as you want with the games and events that you plan.
Your tea party can convey both sophistication and fun if you encourage everyone there to get involved. The tea party theme can be incorporated in a whimsical way, in order to break the ice among the guests and lighten up the mood. It works especially well when all guests do not know each other. You will, of course, want all of your guests to arrive prepared. Therefore, be sure to state in the invitation that the guests are invited to attend an afternoon tea party. Also, ask that they bring things that will help lighten the mood. Some examples might include fancy gloves, hats, handkerchiefs, all of which they may wear during the party. If you have the guests ready to participate ahead of time, there won’t be as many surprises at the shower itself. It also gives the guests an idea of what they should expect. Some guests might not feel comfortable participating. This is expected, so don’t let that discourage you.
So here’s what your tea party will entail. First, as we discussed, ask your guests to dress up in what might pass for their “high society best,” to imitate that British tea party look. Have some dainty, sophisticated music playing. Make sure you have several fancy tea pots to serve your afternoon tea. And try to have different flavors of tea available. You’ll also want to have fancy glass tea cups as well as saucers. Prompt your guests to drink their tea “high society style, with pinky in the air these can be interesting bridal shower games! Remember to keep it light-hearted and turn everything into a game.
For some extra decorations that say “tea party,” use some tea pots as flower vases, filled with lovely fresh flowers. These will make outstanding centerpieces, set on either embroidered cloth or a napkin. In addition to the tea, for the menu, serve things such as dainty sandwiches with cream cheese and some cucumber slices as the filling. Scones and preserves also work well for the tea party theme, as do small cookies and squares.
And finally, don’t feel like your guests must drink tea, especially if they’re not tea drinkers. Offer coffee and punch as well.
As for setting up for the event, set up several dainty tables (enough for however many guests you’re expecting), with four chairs at each table. You’re trying to convey that tea party atmosphere of having four or five parties going on at once. Place a couple pots of tea, in different flavors, at each table (But invite the guests to sample the flavors at the other tables if there’s something there that they prefer).
Above all, remember to have fun and keep your guests engaging with one another.
